This Grilled Beef Tenderloin recipe is the perfect go-to meal, it has the perfect amount of flavor that will leave your mouth watering for more!

This Grilled beef tenderloin recipe is great for those stay in date night meals! It’s a delicious main meal that can be made within 20 minutes!

I have been riding high on a wave of creative thinking and cooking motivation lately. I’m not complaining by any means, because its far easier to cook, write, and photograph when you’re justfeeling it.I can always tell when I am starting to feel a little frustrated and downtrodden, especially when I sit down to edit photos. They just look “blah” to me, not inspiring at all- and I am always aiming to inspire you. I sat down and looked at the photos for this week and was super excited, starting off with this peppery, grilledbeef tenderloin.

If you follow me on Facebook and Instagram, you likely saw pictures of the dinner I put on for Valentine’s Day. Dave’s best friend from high school, along with his girlfriend, happened to be in town for a work conference on a weekend that Dave just happened to actually have off- miracles do exist. It also happened to be on Valentine’s weekend. February was a particularly brutal stretch in our home, and Dave had worked about 13.5 hours a day every day from 2/2-2/13.

I decided to just be cool and suggest we stay in for Valentine’s Dinner.

Grilled Beef Tenderloin Recipe

However, that doesn’t mean that I was just going to through a few burgers on a grill- nor do I do special dinners on a normal scale (please reference here). I made a ridiculously large flower arrangement, got out the nice china, and then pondered the menu.

I have been making beef tenderloin this way for years now. The original recipe can from Allrecipes, but it’s been edited and tweaked and altered so many times over the years that I no longer even measure the ingredients before they go in the spice grinder/coffee grinder. I made this for my parents a few years back and now they’re in love with it as well. Its a great go-to for a great main dish with big flavor.

I am super excited to share Friday’sdish with you! Can’t. Freaking. Wait. You. Will. Die.

EASY Grilled Beef Tenderloin Recipe- Simple Ingredients & 30 Minutes! (2024)

FAQs

How long to grill 2 inch beef tenderloin? ›

If your certified Angus beef filets are closer to an inch or 1 ½ inches thick, they probably won't need any more than 4 to 5 mins. of grilling on each side. But, thicker cuts of two inches or more will require a grill time of about 6 mins. on each side.

Should I sear beef tenderloin before grilling? ›

Rub beef with oil; season generously with salt and pepper. Sear on all sides over direct heat until caramelized, about 5 minutes per side. Transfer beef to indirect heat, and grill, covered, turning occasionally, until a thermometer inserted into the center registers 125 degrees for medium-rare, 20 to 30 minutes.

What is the best cooking method for tenderloin? ›

The food web and a great many cookbooks (very many of them highly reputable) recommend blasting a tenderloin in a hot oven, 450–500°F (232–260°C), for a relatively short time to cook it, followed by a counter rest.

Is it better to grill or roast a beef tenderloin? ›

It's great to make on the grill because you can get a high temperature that sears the outside of the tenderloin to get it browned and full of flavor. Lots of smoke can develop while the beef is searing, so cooking it outside keeps your kitchen smoke-free.

How do you grill a tenderloin steak on a gas grill? ›

Light a charcoal fire in one half of a charcoal grill or preheat a gas grill to high for 10 minutes and lightly oil the grate. Place tenderloin on the hot grill and close the lid. Grill until well-seared, about 5 minutes. Flip and repeat on the other side.

How long does it take to cook a 1 lb tenderloin on the grill? ›

Place the meat on the grill (over the drip pan if using a charcoal grill or over the unlit burner on a gas grill.) Cover the grill and cook a ¾- to 1-pound tenderloin over medium-high indirect heat 30 to 35 minutes or until it registers 145°F on an instant-read thermometer. Turn once halfway through grilling time.

How do you prep a tenderloin? ›

Rub salt and pepper all over tenderloin and place onto rack in a roasting pan and let rest uncovered in the fridge for 1 hour or up to 24 hours. This dry aging process will help the filets have a nice crust. You can skip this step if you don't have time. Once ready to cook, preheat oven to 425°.

Do you season beef before searing? ›

Season with salt and pepper: Just before cooking, sprinkle the meat with salt and pepper. Wait to do this until you're ready to actually put the meat in the pan, otherwise the salt draws moisture out of the meat and you'll need to pat it dry again.

Should you oil meat before grilling? ›

Before it hits the Grill

Lightly oil the steak on both sides to prevent it from sticking to the grill. It's best to add oil directly to the steak and not to the grill as oil will burn quickly on the grill causing excess smoke and flare-ups.

Should you salt beef tenderloin before cooking? ›

Salting the roast and letting it rest uncovered overnight makes for deeper seasoning, plus a drier surface for more efficient browning. Slow-roasting in a low oven cooks the tenderloin evenly from edge to center.

Do you cook tenderloin covered or uncovered? ›

Bake uncovered 40 to 50 minutes or until thermometer reads at least 140°F. Cover beef with tent of aluminum foil and let stand about 15 minutes or until thermometer reads 145°F. (Temperature will continue to rise about 5°, and beef will be easier to carve.)

What is the difference between beef tenderloin and filet mignon? ›

To sum up: Filet mignon is part of a beef tenderloin, but a beef tenderloin is not a filet mignon. Instead, it houses the filet mignon, which comes from the end portion of the tenderloin. The rest of the tenderloin can create other steak cuts or a delicious tenderloin roast to feed the family.

How long to grill beef tenderloin filet on a gas grill? ›

Heat your grill to medium high heat, and set up for direct heat cooking. Once the grill is hot, place the tenderloin filets directly over the heat, and cook for approximately 8 minutes. Cook for 2 minutes per side on the long sides, then cook for 1 minute per side on the short sides.

Do you need to trim beef tenderloin before cooking? ›

Either way, it's important to trim off the chain, which is the thin, fatty section that lies along side of the tenderloin. While smaller, this section contains substantial meat and is perfect for stews, soups or stir-fries as we mentioned earlier.

How much time to cook beef tenderloin? ›

Do not add water or cover the roast and cook to desired doneness, according to the Measuring Doneness and Cooking Times Chart listed below. Roast until a meat thermometer registers 130°F (about 25–30 minutes) for medium-rare doneness or 140°F for medium doneness (about 30–35 minutes).

How long to grill 2 inch filet mignon on a gas grill? ›

Assuming your cut of meat is between 1.5 and 2 inches, it takes 3 to 4 minutes per side for a rare steak, 3.5 to 4.5 minutes per side to reach medium rare, and 4 to 5 minutes per side to cook the filet to medium rare.

How long does it take to cook a 2 inch thick steak on a grill? ›

To cook a 2-inch-thick steak, use direct heat. When grill is medium (you can hold your hand at grill level only 4 to 5 seconds), follow directions below; cook steak 20 to 25 minutes for rare, 27 to 30 for medium. To cook a 3-inch-thick steak, use indirect heat.

How long do I cook a 2 inch steak on the grill? ›

Preheat one side of the grill to about 250 degrees F (121 degrees C). Season steak generously with sea salt and black pepper on both sides. Place steak on the cool side of the preheated grill. Cook until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the center reads about 100 degrees F (37 degrees C), 25 to 30 minutes.

How do you cook a 2 inch thick tenderloin steak? ›

The cook time depends on the thickness of your steak and how you like it done. For medium rare filet mignon that is 2 inches thick, I sear it for 2 minutes per side on the stove to brown, then bake in the oven for 5-6 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 130 degrees F.
