Green Bay Guide to Pickleball, Disc Golf, and Sailing | Discover Green Bay (2024)

Hey there, adventurers! If you're going to be visiting Green Bay during the warm weather months and you’re looking to have some outdoor fun, you are in the right place!

This post is all about pickleball, disc golf, and sailing on the bay; three sports that don’t get a lot of coverage — especially in a football town — but we think they totally should!

So, lace up your sneakers, grab your frisbees, and get ready to hoist the sails as we dive into the hidden gems of Green Bay's active outdoor scene!

Paddle Power

Everywhere you look, it seems like people are talking about pickleball. It is definitely having a moment, and Green Bay is fully embracing this trendy and exciting sport.

There are many indoor and outdoor courts in the area. Here are a few favorites:

The Bar on Holmgren Way - The Bar has brand new indoor pickleball courts that are available for rent. The rate is $20 per court for two hours. They also have paddles and balls available for rent, which is great for visitors who don’t want to bring their equipment with them!

The Salvation Army Kroc Center - The Kroc Center is another great indoor place to play. While members have access to play daily for free, non-members can stop in and try it out by grabbing a day pass. Check out their current Facility Calendar to see their pickleball schedule!

Kiwanis Park (Allouez) - Kiwanis Park is located at 3517 E. River Drive in Allouez. This park has six outdoor pickleball courts that are open to the public with permanent lines and nets. The park also has public restrooms, a playground, fishing spots, and a walking trail.

Josten Park (Bellevue) - Josten Park is a massive 35.5-acre community park located at 2280 Town Hall Road in the suburb of Bellevue. The park has two outdoor pickleball courts that are open to the public. The courts have permanent lines and nets so you’ll be ready to rally!

If you play, you know that there are lots of resources for finding courts and players near you. In Green Bay, you can visit sites like Pickleheads, Packerland Pickleball Players, and Playtime Scheduler to schedule a quick game with like-minded folks who just want to play pickleball.

Frisbee Fun

If pickleball isn’t your thing, you might want to give disc golf a try! It’s not a new sport, but maybe it’s new to you. Whether it’s your first time or your fiftieth, you’re guaranteed to have a great time and spend some quality time in nature… which is always a good thing!

Here are some of our favorite places to try to make an ace (aka a hole-in-one):

Triangle Sports Area - This free 18-hole disc golf course is located inside Baird Creek on the east side of Green Bay. It’s one of the premier disc golf courses in Wisconsin, appealing to both beginner and advanced players. A round can be played in approximately one hour.

Dier Straits Disc Golf Course - This recreational 9-hole course is located inside Wiese Park in Allouez, with all holes coming in between 145 and 454 feet. The course is lightly wooded but mostly flat, and the typical time to complete a round of disc golf here is around 45 minutes.

Nouryon Sports Complex - This 92-acre sports complex in Howard includes the 18-hole Pinecrest Disc Golf Course, multiple sports fields, two concession buildings with restrooms, and ample parking. Fair warning: players consider this to be a slightly more challenging course!

Pamperin Park - This 18-hole course on the west side is another must-try if you’re looking for something a bit more challenging. This course has moderate hills, water hazards, and it’s mostly wooded. People call this course a “must-play” when you’re in Green Bay.

Set Sail on the Bay

Finally, might we suggest you try sailing the next time you visit Green Bay? It’s a sport many people haven’t had a chance to try, and that’s a shame! It’s not nearly as difficult as it looks, and Green Bay Sail and Paddle offers several enticing options that are perfect for visitors!

Intro to Sailing - This is a fun, introductory sailing session using a "quick-start" method of learning to sail Hobie® Wave catamarans. In a short period of time, students aged 8 to 99 can learn the basics and enjoy sailing on the Bay of Green Bay completely on their own!

Couples Night - Your evening for two includes an introductory session where you’ll learn the "quick-start" method of sailing before you set out on the Bay with your sweetie. Afterward, you’ll get a gift certificate for Paradise North Distillery to enjoy some sunset co*cktails.

Weekend Rental - Looking for a sailboat or kayak that you can use for a couple of hours during your weekend visit? Green Bay Sail and Paddle has sailboats and kayaks available for rent in two-hour time slots. This option is only for those who already know how to sail or kayak.
