Is recycling free in Henrico County? ›

This service is free to county residents and collections are every other week. If you would like to sign up for this service, please contact the Central Virginia Waste Management Authority (CVWMA) at (804) 340-0900 or visit their website for further information.

There is no charge for using the recycling center or for disposal of yard waste. An additional $15.00 fee applies for each appliance (air conditioner, refrigerator, etc.)

Some residents within the city limits receive weekly garbage and recycling collection services by the City of Virginia Beach's Solid Waste Management Department. Whenever possible, we're happy to provide smart waste solutions for smaller communities such as homeowners associations and property management groups.

From fridges to phones, headphones to hair dryers, laptops to lawnmowers, toys and power tools, to smaller items like remote controls and smart watches – and everything in-between! Anything with plug, battery or cable can be recycled, for free, in hundreds of drop off points around the country.

Fees for Usage

The cost to the resident for trash disposal is $3.00 per trip. The $3.00 fee includes up to 4 tires, the charge for more than 4 tires is $1.00 per tire.

The Department of Public Utilities' Solid Waste Division offers County residents the opportunity to dispose of used motor oil, old gas, antifreeze and oil-based paints & solvents. Collection of these items occur at the public use areas located at 10600 Fords Country Lane and 2075 Charles City Road.

Recycling containers are usually made of plastic or metal, both of which are recyclable, so it's important to ensure their proper disposal. You can check whether your local council offers a collection of large items or take your bin to a recycling centre in your area.

No clothing, hangers, frozen food boxes, ice cream containers, toys, VHS tapes, CDs, ceramics, glassware, CFLs and other light bulbs, paint, motor oil, shoes, syringes, sharps and needles, or textiles.

Processing at a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF)

At the MRF, all the mixed recycling is sorted and separated into different types of materials by hand or machine (or both) before being sent to manufacturers who make it into new products.
