BRICK TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Mayor Lisa Crate and Councilwoman Heather deJong attended the grand opening of Lovebird Cafe and Market, a new addition to the community, located at 515 Drum Point Road. The officials participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially welcome the business to Brick Township.
Lovebird Cafe and Market offers a range of products, including coffee, fresh pastries, and unique items for customers to enjoy or purchase. The establishment aims to become a favorite local spot for residents seeking quality refreshments and distinctive goods.
“We are excited to welcome Lovebird Cafe and Market to Brick Township,” Mayor Crate said during the event. “It’s always wonderful to see new businesses open and thrive in our community.”
The cafe’s opening adds to the growing number of small businesses in the area, contributing to the local economy and providing a new venue for residents to gather.
Lovebird Cafe and Market is now open for business, inviting the community to experience what it has to offer.
- Frederick County Man Wins $50K with Scratch-Off
WOODBINE, MD — A Frederick County man turned a $465 Keno win into a $50,000 prize after playing a Maryland Lottery scratch-off. The lucky player purchased a $30 200X The Cash instant ticket at Paddock Wine & Spirits in Woodbine, leading to the significant windfall.
After a series of smaller wins on other scratch-offs, the avid Keno fan struck gold with the $50,000 second-tier prize, one of six available in the 200X The Cash game. The game still has three top prizes of $2 million and four remaining $50,000 prizes.
The winner and his wife, who occasionally plays the Lottery, plan to use part of their winnings to install a fence for their young dog. Paddock Wine & Spirits, where the winning ticket was purchased, will also celebrate the sale of the lucky ticket.
- One Dead, Others Injured in Northeast D.C. Traffic Accident
WASHINGTON, D.C. — A fatal crash that occurred on Wednesday evening in Northeast Washington is currently under investigation.
The incident happened at approximately 6:41 p.m. on August 28, when the driver of a 2012 Infiniti FX35 was traveling at a high rate of speed on Eastern Avenue, Northeast. As the vehicle approached the intersection of Bunker Hill Road, it ran a red light and collided with a 2022 Hyundai Tucson that was crossing on a green light. The Infiniti then lost control, crossed the double yellow lines, and struck a 2024 Fengyuan Rossi scooter occupied by two females, causing them to be ejected from the scooter. The vehicle eventually crashed into a tree before coming to a stop in a nearby field.
DC Fire and EMS personnel arrived on the scene and transported the driver of the Infiniti and one of the women from the scooter to a local hospital. The other woman on the scooter was pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information to come forward by calling (202) 727-9099 or texting to the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.
- Westminster Man Wins Big Thanks to Anthony Santander’s Grand Slam
WESTMINSTER, MD — Mark Yurick, a lifelong Orioles fan from Westminster, won $6,000 through the Maryland Lottery's Home Run Riches Contest, thanks to a grand slam by Anthony Santander during the Orioles' game against the Houston Astros on August 23.
Yurick, who was the Contestant of the Game during a family vacation in Ocean City, watched the Orioles rally from behind after Santander's grand slam in the sixth inning turned a potential loss into a 7-5 victory. The grand slam brought Yurick’s total winnings to $6,000, a significant boost from the $1,000 he had already secured earlier in the game.
A devoted Orioles fan since childhood, Yurick has participated in the Home Run Riches promotion in past seasons, benefiting from Orioles home runs in 2021 and 2023. He plans to use his winnings for future vacation plans and expressed his gratitude to Santander for the unforgettable win, stating, “Without him, all this wouldn’t be here!”
