How do I get rid of a warrant in Louisiana? ›

Go to court.

If your bench warrant is on a misdemeanor charge, your attorney may appear in court without you to present your case and ask the court to recall the warrant. If your bench warrant is a result of felony charges, your personal appearance in court will be required alongside your attorney.

An arrest warrant does not have an expiry date (CCRP 205). In Louisiana, an arrest warrant cannot be revoked because of any defect in the warrant. However, the warrant may be amended to remedy the defect (CCRP 206).

In cases of a bench warrant, your attorney can work with the judge or the courts to request that the judge recall the warrant. This is entirely at the judge's discretion, but if they agree to recall the bench warrant it is essentially canceled, invalidating the arrest order.

In order to have a bench warrant recalled, the best thing to do is to call the court that issued the warrant and attempt to make arrangements to settle the issue. However, you or your attorney may have to appear before the judge who issued it.

Arrest Warrant in Louisiana
